MY STORY
Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, I’ve been immersed in the Indian performing arts for as long as I can remember. At 5 years old I began training in traditional Indian styles such as Bollywood, Bharatnatyam, semi-classical, and raas/garba. I’m eternally grateful to have been raised in an environment in which I not only had access to these cultural artforms, but was encouraged to embrace them.
When I entered high school I began to venture into Western genres including hip hop, contemporary, and jazz funk. As I discovered the nuances of these styles, I fell in love with fusing the grace & expression of Indian dance with the textures & syncopations of Western choreography. Today, I hope to utilize dance & choreography to explore any and every topic I’m passionate about- from mental health struggles to the experiences of the South Asian diaspora.
